Gruyere Potato Gratin for Two
We are so ready for summer to be over around here, especially so that we can start making all of our favorite comfort foods! This recipe for Gruyere Potato Gratin For Two is one of our favorites. It’s incredibly easy and delicious…and it makes the perfect side dish for grilled steak (just in case you are also hanging on to those last days of summer grilling!) The recipe can be scaled to make any number of servings, but we really like the fact that we can make just two individual servings without any leftovers!
Are you looking forward to cooler temperatures and comfort food like we are?
Just a few simple ingredients!
Thinly slice the potatoes.
Heat cream, thyme, bay leaf, salt and white pepper to a simmer.
Layer the potatoes in an overlapping pattern. Pour hot cream mixture over potatoes and top with cheese.
Have patience…allow to rest 10 minutes before devouring!
Gruyere Potato Gratin for Two
- 2 medium russet potatoes
- 1 ¼ cups heavy cream
- 1 tsp chopped fresh thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- ¾ tsp kosher salt
- ¼ tsp ground white pepper
- 4 oz Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 1 TBS chopped fresh chives
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment and set two approximately 16oz ramekins or other oven safe dishes on baking sheet (ours measure about 5” in diameter and are 2” deep).
Peel the potatoes and use a mandoline or food processor to slice potatoes about 1/8” thick. Layer half of potatoes in each dish, overlapping so each layer lies relatively flat.
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the cream, thyme, bay leaf, salt and white pepper and bring to a simmer. Remove the pan from the heat and remove and discard the bay leaf. Add 3 oz of cheese and stir until melted and smooth. Pour half of the cream mixture over each dish of potatoes and sprinkle each with remaining cheese.
Transfer to the oven and bake for about 35 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the cheese well browned. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before serving.
